The Area
The old resort town of Karuizawa attracts nearly a quarter million summer visitors annually. The peak of Mt. Asama dominates the area and its hiking trails are well-defined and well-trekked each year.
There are numerous bike rental shops, horses for hire, tennis courts, golf courses and field archery centers. Although the emphasis is on the outdoors, there are over 200 Ginza-affiliated shops in this woodland retreat so that city travelers can get their shopping fix after communing with nature.
