The Area
Located alongside beautiful Lake Chuzenji, Nikko offers spectacular natural beauty and historical relics dating back more than 1,200 years. Just 80 miles north of Tokyo, it is well worth the trip for the scenic wonders alone.
Nearby Chuzenji town features the Kegon-no-taki Falls, whose mist-laden waters are known for producing an almost rainbow effect. The area around Chuzenji offers mountain trails, relaxing mineral spas and a unique, high plateau filled with wildflowers and hot springs.
Sightseeing
- Lake Chuzenji - Well-stocked with trout and other game fish, this is a popular angling spot, as well as a lovely place to relax in a rowboat.
- Kegon-no-taki Falls - The stream originates at Lake Chuzenji and cascades over a huge horseshoe chasm, producing a constant rainbow.
- Yomeimon - This historic 36-foot "Gate of Sunlight" is alive with 400 gilt polychrome carvings depicting giraffes, lions, dragons, birds, flowers and phoenixes - to name a few.
- Nikko Botanical Garden - Over 3,000 varieties of plants are grown here, including indigenous wildflowers.

- Nikko Edo Village - Experience life as it was in Japan's Edo Period.
